Top-Level Research Areas
Raising the profile
Over the last few years Leipzig University has succeeded in raising its research profile by specifically supporting inter-faculty projects.
The university focuses its research expertise in Top-Level Research Areas.
Here, scholars of various faculties at the university work closely with non-university research institutions on a national and international scale, and combine internationally competitive research with attractive post-graduate qualifications. These serve as incubators for new interdisciplinary research projects.
Top-Level Research Areas are forms of temporary collaborations that the university supports with personnel and material resources.
The six current Top-Level Research Areas are:
Multifunctional Materials and Processes from Molecules and Nanodevices
Mathematical Sciences
Molecular and Cellular Communication: Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Biomedical Science in Therapy and Diagnostics
Brain, Cognition and Language
Contested Order - Order in Contest
Environmental Changes and Diseases
In 2011 the research focus Biodiversity and Ecological Services was institutionalised.
