ERASMUS study abroad
Through the ERASMUS programme the European Union promotes cooperation between institutions of higher education within the ERASMUS area. An integrative part of the programme is the exchange of students among universities in the 27 EU-countries and Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Croatia and Switzerland.
Universität Leipzig students have the chance of studying at one of the ERASMUS partner universities for one to two semesters. This is an option for all students enrolled in their 2nd year or above (up to obtaining the doctoral degree) and regardless of their nationality.
There is time to go abroad. Check your study and examination regulations for details on recommended study abroad periods and find out about your individual options for accommodating them in your study programme.

What does the programme include?
- mobility grant of around 200 euro per month (dependent on the annual funds earmarked by the European Union)
- study period abroad from 3-12 months at one of the ERASMUS partner universities of the Universität Leipzig
- exemption from tuition fees at the partner university
- recognition of the course achievements produced abroad
- support by the guest university with regard to accommodation, cultural events etc.
Application procedure
Students from all subject areas can apply for a study period abroad of 1 to 2 semesters.

Grants for students with special needs/ students with a child
In order to do an ERASMUS study period abroad you need to be selected and nominated by your Universität Leipzig institute or faculty. The selection procedure usually takes place in November or December of the year before you start your study abroad period. Please consult your ERASMUS departmental coordinator.
