Changing the study programme

Changing the study programme

It is advisable to adequately acquaint yourself with the range of study programmes at the Universität Leipzig and the admission requirements for the study programme or subject you wish to take. International students should contact the International Centre and domestic students should contact the Student Advisory Service.

It is not possible to take leave semesters at the same time as changing the study programme (Enrolment regulation Art. 21 para. 4).

International students

In principle you only have the opportunity to make a change in the first three semesters after the start of your studies. We strongly advise you to find out from the Akademisches Auslandsamt (International Centre) whether the change of study programme you would like to make is really an option for you.

To change your study programme, please follow the appropriate procedure:

National students

If the study programme/subject is subject to restricted admission, you must apply online in the proper form and by the deadline (see application periods). You can only make the change once you have received approval, using a separate form that is sent to you with the approval.

If you are changing to a study programme /subject with free enrolment, you must fill in the application for change of programme. This application must be submitted to the Studentensekretariat (Student Office) with the documents named in the application.

If you are applying for a higher study semester within the framework of the change of study programme/subject, crediting by the examination office/examination committee for the relevant subject in the above-named form is necessary. You will only receive this crediting when you can produce relevant course assessments.

It is only possible to process the application when the binding categorisations by the Examination Committee (only if you are changing to a higher course semester) and all other enrolment conditions have been verified.
Once the change of study programme has been booked in the database -- provided that the due semester fee has been paid – you can print out new enrolment certificates via the Self-service function on the Internet.
